Lucid Dreams and Charred Meatballs

I’m feeling super brave today. Like SUPER brave. Obviously.

So I’m getting pretty close to my 6-month anniversary with crossfit. Actually, I’m pretty much already there. I don’t know what to do! Should I bake it something? (Actually I bought it a new jump rope, but we’ll get to that in a second!)

Here’s what it did for me–

In the photo on the left I am one month in (sometime in March?). In the photos on the right–that was Tuesday evening. I look the same everywhere except HOLYCRAPIKINDOFHAVEABS! Oh, and I gained ~5lbs… Actually I gained 10 and then lost 5…. whatever, stop weighing yourself so much! It’s probably all muscle.

That’s so embarassing, but I had to share the progress! I’ll probably do it again in January, though. ย Unless I become freakishly addicted to sugar or crack or something. Who knows.

I wonder if it’s just crossfit. Maybe it’s a combination of intermittent fasting AND crossfit. I have been doing my half-hearted version of IF for about 6 weeks now. It consists of skipping breakfast and sipping on BCAAs. And otherwise leading a normal life with paleo meals, protein shakes, larabars, and lots of almond butter.

Ever since I’ve been doing IF, I will get up, run/teach pump, shower, and then go back to sleep for about 45 minutes. Today during that 45 minutes I had the most epic dream ever:

I starts out and I’m driving my tahoe to my apartment because I’m on my lunch break. It’s really hard to drive because I’m sitting in the back. Like wayyyy in the back where you’d ride if you were a wakeboard. Then I was getting kindof stressed out because I couldn’t control the pedals. I looked at the clock and saw that it was 11:10, so I went “AHA!!! I’m not on my lunch break! I don’t take lunch till 12:30, this is obviously a dream” (since nothing else ย about that scenario seemed like a red flag or anything). So then I called my mom on the phone and told her that I was in the back of my tahoe sleeping, because that makes a lot of sense.

Once I got to my apartment, some random people were there. I didn’t know the girl, but I recognised a guy. IRL I know him, but he’s not single… but that wasn’t important in my dream so I made out with him. Then I started pigging out on chips. Lucid dreaming is dangerous–I become a greedy snothead. The girl at my apartment was staring at me so I offered her some chips. She seemed hesitant so I told her they didn’t have calories because it’s just a dream. This is where it gets REAL: I was handing her the bag and I saw that it was empty. So I filled it back up!! With my brain!!! WTF?!

Then I wanted to impress her with my dream-food skillz, so I opened the fridge but all I could find was cold pizza.

Disappointing.

So I gave her that and told her to follow me outside where I proceeded to fly around badly. I was just plain bad at it, I was barely hovering over the ground and couldn’t do flips or anything cool. I guess that’s when it ended.

I made PaleOMG’s spaghetti meatball bites again. What else is new?

After I took this picture, I went and finished watching the last half hour of Beezus and Ramona on my iPad while I left the remaining 12 bites in the oven (which was still set to 350….) for 30 more mintes. So yeah, today for lunch I get to eat charred meatballs. Yippity doo.

Crossfit update:

Yesterday’s WOD was this:

Find max front squat: I found 180. I hated it. It was ugly.

THEN, 2 rounds for time of

[75lbs]

20 shoulder to overhead (press, push press, jerk, split jerk, whatever floats your boat)

20 hanging power cleans.

20 pullups. (AAB does 5 unbroken–if you break it you start over)

My first round was lovely. I did it all unbroken till I got to the pullups, then I did 4 sets of 5. Then on the second round I had to break just a little bit. Then when I got to the pullups I did my first 5. Then I did 4, which means I had to start over at 5 to get them unbroken… I did 4 more. Then I did 3. Then I did 4. Then I did 3. Then I did 4. I was kicking the wall and stomping and growling. I’m sure it was hilarious. Then I did 4. Then I did 4. Then I decided to throw in the towel because everyone else was finished with the WOD. Blerg.

Today I ordered myself one of these:

My 6-month CF anniversary present?

I’m also rewarding myself by quitting teaching at World Gym. I have exactly 6 more classes to teach!!

You’re hot stuff. Good for you ๐Ÿ™‚ And yay for more sleep/dreams now that you won’t have to teach at horrendous hours!

Gracias! Yes, my director said “I am losing all of my great instructors to Cross Fit.” Sad, but it just shows how freaking awesome crossfit is.

Sexy beast right there!!! Whoo!!! ๐Ÿ˜‰ You’re looking pretty awesome, Lisa.. have no shame!

Your lifts continue to inspire me. “F” Front Squats– I just don’t “get” it, so I completely avoid them. And I JUST got to be able to do 5 reps of 50lbs on my OH press and it’s HARD!

Spaghetti squash is one of my new loves. I loved pasta back in my former life, and while I don’t think it’s really an exact substitute, it rules my meal plans (well, what I try to make of a meal plan). It’s a weekly staple in my house and I don’t know if you do dairy, but add a dollop of mozzarella on top of that and I’m drooling at the thought..

And my final thoughts.. congrats on finally being able to quit your classes! While you’re looking at quitting, I’m considering looking into teaching group fitness… I know NOTHING about it.. !

front squats suck. just set it in the front of your shoulders and have a few fingers on it.. dont try to use your hands or youll kill your wrists!

      and thankyou!! ๐Ÿ™‚

My advice to you about becoming a group instructor is this— do NOT work for a gym that doesn’t respect their members. Make sure they’re not just money-hungry. If they don’t actually care about people, it shows, and the whole place is just a junky atmosphere. Choose “Average Joes” over “GloboGym” ๐Ÿ™‚

Good to know.. I haven’t looked into it yet, but I’m assuming you need to get some sort of certifications? I’d love to be a personal trainer. While I have such a long way to go in working on myself, I think it would be awesome to be able to empower someone else. I started my grown-up life wanting to be a high school English teacher; the Business world took over and I’m in accounting.. but miss the helping people part!

yeah you need to get your CPR. And most of the personal trainers i know used ISSA to get certified. I think that would be a good place to start, but choose your employer carefully ๐Ÿ˜‰

look at those abs! great job!!! keep up the good work!! ๐Ÿ™‚

      • robfiasco August 9, 2012 / 2:21 pm

can you fly up here then? that’d be cool.

      • robfiasco August 9, 2012 / 2:24 pm

hiding? nah, i was actually paying to host on that site so I cancelled in and started a new one. buuuut I haven’t posted anything because i’m a lazy terrible person.

It’s about damn time you realized you were gaining muscle. ๐Ÿ˜› Hot stuff!!

    • jenniechris August 10, 2012 / 9:37 am

I realized that this sounded a little jerk-like–I just meant that I’ve been telling you that you’ve been getting muscle all along…and now I’m glad you’re realizing it and seeing the difference!!

      • fabulousinfayetteville August 10, 2012 / 10:06 am

ahha thanks! I didn’t take it as jerk-y at all. I have pretty serious body image issues, but don’t we all? For the first time in my life, im okay with weighing a lot because it means I can lift a lot! ๐Ÿ™‚

      • jenniechris August 15, 2012 / 1:24 pm

Awesome! embrace it–you’re fantastico. And have big muscles to beat up anyone who says you aren’t.
